NEW Small-group (private) tango workshops - all levels!
We have not yet resumed our original weekly 'drop-in' classes, post-lockdown. However, you can study tango with us in an exciting new format: small-group (private) tango workshops for 6-8 dancers. This format offers lots of individual attention and intensive tuition (at half the cost of a private lesson), as well as a chance to dance with a small number of other partners, in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Sounds good? Please read on…
What is a small-group workshop? Key features
The format of the workshop varies according to the attendees. However, there are some common features:
We usually define a 'small group' as a minimum of six people, and a maximum of twelve. However, for the moment we are keeping these small groups a little more exclusive, so that attendees get extra individual attention. So at present, our small-group workshops are 6-8 people only. All small groups are made up of equal numbers of leaders and followers, so no-one need wait for a partner.
We have not increased our small-group prices for five years, despite rising venue costs and other costs. The price for a small-group workshop/lesson is £30 per person per hour. This is half the cost of a private lesson for an individual, in a hall/studio. It's an economical way to get personal attention and tuition and meet other dancers.
Each workshop is typically two hours long (sometimes just 90 mins for beginners), and they are usually organised into themed series, so that you book for 6-8 hours of tango tuition, spread across 3-4 dates.

Intermediates & Advanced - workshops running now!
In Spring 2022, we resumed small-group workshops for experienced dancers who were our students before lockdown. Each workshop is two hours long and focuses on specific kinds of steps or movements, such as (for example) barridas, ganchos, boleos, sacadas, rhythm, footwork, close embrace or the flexible embrace. As always, we cover salon, milonguero and nuevo styles. We plan and book two or three workshops as a series, so that attendees get 4-6 hours of intensive coverage of particular tango movements.
The workshops run every fortnight, on Saturday mornings, usually 11.15am to 1.15pm.
We’ve found these small-group sessions a great way to get experienced dancers back into the swing of tango after the long hiatus. Singling out one or two particular types of movements helps participants to recall and revise steps and moves they knew pre-lockdown, as well as learn new material – and above all it means we can spend dedicated time revisiting the correct techniques and principles for leaders and followers.
We offered these workshops initially to those students who had got in touch during/after the lockdowns, keen to resume classes with us. If you were one of our intermediate students and you would like to be added to the list to join these workshops, please get in touch and let us know. We’d be happy to see you again!
You can see some photos of current workshops on our Gallery page. We'll try to add more soon!

Improvers: let's get tangoing again!
We are now looking to put together small-group workshops for tango improvers (click here for info on levels). These will be ideal for dancers who were already studying with ATSE pre-lockdown, as well as newcomers with a reasonable amount of tango experience who would like to join us and expand their tango horizons!
We will structure these workshops as best suits the attendees’ experiences, needs and wishes, along the same lines as the Intermediate sessions, above. As always, we incorporate salon, milonguero and nuevo styles. If you don't know what these are, don't worry - just come along and enjoy finding out!
We will plan and book three workshops per series/topic, offering six hours total tuition across three dates.
The workshops are likely to run on Thursday evenings, probably starting 7 to 7.30pm and ending 9 to 9.30pm. We already have a venue booked for that slot. There might be the possibility of a different day/time; please confirm, when you contact us, whether you would be able to make Thursday evenings.
If you are interested in joining us, please contact us and we'll be sure to let you know the first available dates! As soon as we have a balanced group (equal numbers of leaders & followers) of 6-8, we will get in touch with you.
